Chetopa Kansas is a small community of approximately 1,200 people located on the Neosho River in the far southeast corner of Kansas. Chetopa is approximately three miles from the Oklahoma border and 30 miles from Missouri. It is a charming small-town known locally as the Pecan and Catfish Capital of Kansas! The community sponsors numerous activities for the young and old alike, such as: 4-H, VFW, Women’s VFW Auxiliary, Chamber of Commerce, Community Task Force, PTO, Senior Citizens Center, Volunteer Fire Department, Volunteer 1st Responder Unit, and Little League Basketball, Baseball/Softball and Football. The community comes together twice a year to host festivals and celebrations - once to celebrate 4th of July, and in the fall, for our Pecan Fest.
On the outskirts of the city pecan trees thrive and agricultural activities remain the backbone of the community. The river is a source of entertainment each year as fishermen line the banks in the Spring for the spawning of the illustrious paddlefish, known locally as the spoonbill, and catch an abundance of catfish during the regular fishing season.
